Description:
The life of Harry Patch, the only surviving veteran of the trenches.
Harry Patch, aged 110, is the sole surviving veteran of the trenches, and his experiences in WW1 are of great historical interest to us, and retold here in a way that students can read and appreciate. What is equally stunning is the rest of his life story, both before the war and after, and what that tells us about C20th life in Britain.
The book is also excellent for the study of significance - how the importance of WW1 has varied over the last 90 years, and how, perhaps, it has recently been appropriated by politicians for their own ends. Food for thought there, too.
An immensely readable and enjoyable book, where Harry emerges as a very human and rounded figure.
