Description:
An introductory guide to the events of WW1, suitable for KSt3 and less confident readers at KSt4.
Starting with the Origins of the War, and going through all the major 'headline' events, including the Problems of the Peace Treaties, this book is a short narrative of the War. Few of the controversies relating to events are aired, or even hinted at. This is a simple narrative, but this in itself forms a useful starting point for further research. There is an excellent glossary.
Perhaps the most useful parts of the book are the 'Voices from the Past,' pieces of evidence - often from historians, 'Turning Points' and 'How Did It Happen?' all highlighted text boxes helping pupils focus on the main points of the story.
This would make a useful library text rather than a textbook, and a simple introduction to some diifficult questions.
