Review:
Although much altered, you can visit Tamworth Castle as a Norman castle. Much of the interior dates from late Tudor and Stuart periods, so it is a good place to see life for rich and poor at that time. There are also Victorian rooms, reflecting the last time the castle was used as a residence. The upper floor contains an exhibition - the Tamworth Story - from Saxon times to today. In the grounds you can find a statue to Aethelfreda, daughter of King Alfred, who built a Saxon Palace in Tamworth in the front line of the war against the Danes.
A lovely small, enclosed space, with lots of stairs, rooms and exhibitions, that provide an insight into much of Britain's history.
