Description:
Edward I's last - and unfinished - masterpiece.
Review:
Symmetrical concentric walls still form a tough defensive ring around this castle. Designed to cower the Welsh, and make sure there were no more rebellions, Beaumaris was to be the strongest castle ever built in Britain. Alas, money ran out before the walls reached their full height. It is both a defensive fortress and a comfortable home - although most of the comforts have long since disappeared. This is a perfect place to explore the defenses of castles, still impressive today.
