Description:
A medieval monastery, dissolved by Henry VIII and rebuilt in the C20th.
Review:
Benedictine monks returned to Buckfast in 1882 and have, since 1906, painstakingly and lovingly rebuilt the Abbey and restored it to its former glory. A working monastery, with a great feeling of peace, this is a terrific place to understand the power of religion, and the great strength of belief of some members of society. A quiet, restful place, with some of the old buildings in use as shop and exhibition space.
