Description:
Depicts life working for the GWR, as well as travelling.
|
Review:
Situated in part of the former Swindon works, home of the GWR, this museum cleverly depicts the many and varied aspects of railway life. The Foundry, Carriageworks, Boiler Shop and stores are all realistically portrayed, showing the 'work' side of the railway, as well as the public side of locomotives, travel, holidays, stations etc. Not to forget the humble goods traffic - the bread and butter of the railways! The museum manages to cleverly pack a great deal into a relatively small space, leaving one eager for more. A geat place to study the impact of the railway, in all its senses. Superb!
