Review:
Hartlepool's Maritime Experience was voted the Visitor Attraction of the Year for 2002 by the Northumbria Tourist Board, and one can see why. The Historic Quay alone is impressive, with the Quay depicting an 18th Century seaport from the time of Nelson, the shops are meticulously authentic, with detailed information, the deck games are fun. Visitors can also experience, being ‘Pressganged’, or the exiting ‘Fighting Ships’, and the children’s maritime adventure centre, featuring an adventure playship, will keep children of all ages amused for hours! The HMS Trincomalee, the second oldest British warship afloat, and the fully restored LNER Humber paddle steamer, PSS Wingfield Castle can be explored. Hartlepool Museum is a stimulating place to visit, it not only tells the story of the ‘Hartlepool Monkey’ but Hartlepool itself, from the Stone age to the 20th Century. Hartlepool's maritime Experience was opened in 1995 to huge acclaim, it has just got better year on year, and will certainly be worth a day trip during 2005 as it, with the Northern Re-enactment Society, will have many attractions marking the 200th anniversary of Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar.
