Review:
Bamburgh Castle is one of the most picturesque Castles in the North, it dominates the coastline within sight of Holy Island, it has been used in numerous films and Television programmes. It is believed that a pre-Roman tribe, the Votadini built a fortress on the site, beginning 2,000 years of History. The imposing Norman Keep, surrounded by curtain walls, is the heart of the castle, and the home of the Armstrong Family. A tour of the rooms, gives the visitor the traditional experience of viewing paintings, armour and gifts owned by a landed family through the ages, the 16th Century suits of armour are particularly impressive. The Armstrong Museum is based around the work of the 1st Lord Armstrong , an innovative engineer, who specialised in aviation and shipbuilding, the collection of Second World War artefacts is interesting. Bamburgh Castle has many aspects which are impressive; the location is spectacular, the Castle is a wonderful example of castle development, and the exhibitions add a wealth of historic detail. If you want to visit one of the finest Castles in the North you should consider Bamburgh Castle first.
