Marc Morris is a great enthusiast for castles - both as fortresses and as places to live. He brings a lifetime of reading, research and visiting to this book. It is incredibly readable, not at all technical, but it takes us through the development of castles, fixed firmly in the context of the history of the time. I couldn't put it down!
