Description:
Book 3 in the new Heinemann series Think History. A thematic look at the last 250 years.
Centred around three themes - Revolution; Rights and Freedoms; and The changing nature of 20th century warfare, this text is attractively presented. Not too much text, plenty of sources and illustrative materials. Each section comes with Foundation Strategy type lesson structure - Starter, Activities and Plenary. There are lots of interesting and challenging activities.
There is also an Assessment and Learning CD-ROM to buy, and an (to my mind rather expensive at £199) Interactive Presentations, videos, etc pack to supplement the text.
The thematic approach is both a strength and a weakness of the text. There are plenty of depth studies - Agricultural Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Political Change, for example; but relatively little to link them firmly together, and the thematic approach limits the development of chronological understanding.
This book is attractively presented, with plenty of lively and interesting activities, and it does cover both the last units of Key Stage 3, as well as, for example, slavery and civil rights.
