Ruins of an impressive motte and bailey castle and priory dating from shortly after the Norman invasion.

Review:
An excellent place to understand why castles were built - the site, and the motte atop a rock outcrop, give plenty of scope for teaching about defenses! The Priory ruins are extensive enough to get a real feel for monastic life.
