Description:
An 'Interpretations' activity for Key Stage 3, looking at the impact of the railways.
Two separate worksheets focus on the impact of the railway - one largely negative, and the other mostly positive. Pupils are then asked to write an assessment of the impact of railways - thus being forced to use only a one-sided picture.
By coming together in pairs and comparing their resulting work, pupils can appreciate that interpretations depend largely on what evidence you choose to use.
Finally, pupils are asked to work together in pairs to produce an interpretation of the impact of railway, and then to share this with the class.
