Description:
A revision activity for A Level. A simple mind map for students to work on.
Russia was widely regarded as a backward industrial economy under the Tsar, yet modernised rapidly under Stalin. They were able to equal the USA in the Space Race and, for a time, the Cold War. So was Russian and Soviet industry successful? What part did it play in the collapse of the Soviet Union? This activity aims to help students sort their ideas.
It consists of a simple 'mind map' of the key periods, with blank outer discs for them to enter 'yes' and 'no' arguments, and supporting detail, in the appropriate period. It should provoke lively discussion and debate, and more importantly, focus attention on the key ideas behind the debate about Russian and Soviet industrialisation.
