The Queens’ Coronation: behind closed doors
This is a one-hour documentary on Channel 4 exploring the tensions concealed behind one of the most important national events of the 20th century. Deep divisions lay within the House of Windsor, with Prince Philip’s ideas for a thoroughly modern monarchy meeting much resistance from Buckingham Palace – the Queen Mother being foremost among his opponents. Caught in the middle was the Queen, trying to reconcile her husband’s desire for progress with her mother’s belief in tradition.

Transmission time is Tuesday 2 December at 9pm
