British stamps as a way into history
Each year the Post Office issues a huge range of special stamps, commemorating many special events. Charity shops sell huge bags of these very cheaply - and you can always give the left overs back to the charity! You can use ordinary stamps to show price inflation over time, or you can use the 'commemorative' stamps as a starting point for research, discussion or chronological work.
